The Green Bay Packers had a disappointing 2005 season with a 4-12 record. It was their first losing season in 14 years. Yet, the fervent Packer fans still jam pack Lambeau Field and always will. Brett Favre has confirmed for the 2006-2007 season and is determined to put more footballs into the end zone. Green Bay has also made some significant acquisitions, like Oakland Raiders three-time Pro Bowl Defensive Back Charles Woodson, and made a few trades for additional and very promising draft picks. The Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy, should have no problem turning this season around.

The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun. In order to buy uniforms and equipment, Lambeau asked his employer to sponsor the team. The Indian Packing Company gave him $500 provided the team would be named for its sponsor. To this day, the "Green Bay Packers" is the oldest team name still in use in the NFL. The Packers became a professional franchise in 1921.
The team experienced financial troubles in the same year and the franchise was lost. But the Packers found new backers the next year and acquired the franchise once again. The financial backers, known as the "Hungry Five," formed the Green Bay Football Corporation, a publicly owned company. The team currently has 111,967 stockholders. The city of Green Bay has only about 100,000 residents, making it the smallest NFL city. Unfortunately, Lambeau Field only holds 72,601.
